Project in Frankfurt-Riedberg to mark Ernst May's 125th birthday

To mark Ernst May's 125th birthday, he will be remembered through the construction of a small village in Riedberg to show the importance of his work and how it represents the modern era. The aim is to build an ensemble of linear, cubic buildings. A simple, compact and formal design language will be connected to the demands of modern living in the countryside.

30 plots of land have been made available to have detached and semi-detached houses built on them as part of the "die weiße stadt" project. To ensure the realisation of an integrated style of architecture, the individual building owners will agree to cooperate with one of ten architects who have been appointed by a jury as part of a competition. The chairman of the jury was Prof. DW Dreysse, who is a member of the town planning board of the city of Frankfurt am Main and the scientific advisory board of the Ernst-May-Gesellschaft eV.

The award-winning architectural designs for "die weiße stadt" can be seen as part of a public exhibition from 21st of October to 4th of November 2011.
